Tony's Tours in East London

    Yesterday we had a chance to have a trip in East London with Tony. Tony introduced many interesting shops and galleries to us. We saw variety works from different artists, some interesting exhibitions and the process of making models and furniture. We visited 4D Modelshop, Wiltons, Whitechapel Art Gallery, Raven Row, Benedict Radcliffe's studio, Atlantis Art Materials, Graffitti Life Gallery, Unto This Last, Tatty Devine, Kemistry Gallery and SCP.

 

    The material of making models is complete in 4D shop. It was my first time to see the process of making models. The tree models are all handmade and very delicateness. The way of making models by box mould is clever and easy to understand. Even I'm not sure the essentially technique of making models for my project, but I think this will be a good suggestion to my project.

    I think this theater called Wiltons was my favorite place among the places we visited. The house was old but it had the special feel of nostalgia that made me feel comfortable when I was inside. The details of this house was old but beautiful, even the bricks on the walls were broken. I like the old design there, like the stairs, the different types of furniture, the piano, the lights and so on. They were all old, but they were so suitable for being together in this theater. It was really unbelievable that this old house was a theater and it was a pity that we didn't have the chance to get inside to have a look. I believe the theater inside is also amazing. The concept of reusing Wiltons is definitely suitable for my project about the old building reconstruction. Keep all the old things in the building and give it a new function, when people walk in this building, they can still feel the atmosphere in the old times.

    The design of this church was also amazing. The details of the pillars, the windows, the clock were all beautiful and refinement. I need to collect these details of historical old buildings in London to help me with my project. They can be contrasted with the old buildings in China. I want to get much deeper research about these old European architecture design, not only the classical architecture, the normal buildings are also attractive for me. This will help me to get better know about the classical old buildings.

    There was one more place that attracted me, called Unto This Last, a furniture shop. I had already did some research for this shop before we got there. This shop's purpose is to offer the convenience of the local craftsman's workshop at mass-production prices. Everything we can choose to buy from this shop are made at the back of the shop, we can watch the process of making furniture. The furniture there are all simple design, but I really like this style of design, they are more natural than the modern designed furniture.

    I can also saw many interesting things on the street, the atmosphere of art and design was everywhere. It was really a wonderful trip in the East London and I really enjoy it.
